Joe wrote:But you cannot hold others to your personal preferences and opinions outside your home. That is why I want to bring it back to Scripture.
Joe, of course, you are right, and my point was never to insist that others should share my personal preferences. My larger point was how we need to examine why and how we condemn one thing over another and how our preferences should or should not necessarily apply to all Christians.
To wit: can we honestly say that something as banal as our musical or literary tastes truly reflect the quality of our Christian beliefs and ultimately our destinies in the Kingdom of Yahweh?
And, Joe, I have not been able to find anything in Scripture that condemns any type of music over another. However, I did find a few references that acknowledge that there are many kinds of music (emphasis mine):
Daniel 3:15
Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
That said, it would seem there will come a time when all music, regardless of type, will cease as Judgement comes:
Revelations 18:22
And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee.
