What is this really about?

In many cities, there is an annual property tax to pay for the water pumped into your home or business.

Money has to come from somewhere to pay for maintenance (eg.broken water-mains), and especially purification / filtration, otherwise the water would be tainted with feces and who knows what kind of bacteria.

We always had free clean water, just like we have free education. You would have to know a bit about Irish politics and how corrupt it is to understand why people all over the country are taking to the streets

These taxes are to pay the unnamed bondholders that got bailed out by the Irish people.
The Irish "republic " is not even a 100 years old, and these taxes are coming on the back of a property tax.
