Finland: Toughened sentences for hate crimes

There are posts related to European Nationalism spread throughout this forum. A separate section for this purpose is probably long overdue. With the rise of Nationalist parites in European politics over the past couple of years, here we will have a distinct place to post related discussion topics. Of course, we at Christogenea know that there is no political solution to our woes, however we also hope for the racial reawakening of Whites everywhere.

Brax: Tougher Sentences Will Cut Hate Crimes

Justice Minister Tuija Brax believes that tougher sentences by courts would
reduce the incidence of hate crimes. Parliament will be presented with a bill
before its Christmas recess which will allow more offences to carry a heavier
sentence if they are carried out as hate crimes.

Brax thinks that making it possible to increase the severity of sentences is a
powerful message to offenders.

"We believe that the despicable nature of hate crimes will be increasingly
noted. Those guilty of these crimes will not be considered honourable people.
In this way the number of offenses will decline. If a crime is, however,
carried out, punishments will come more often and they will be tougher,"
Brax told YLE.

At present, the severity of sentences can be increased if the crime is
motivated by hate aimed at an ethnic group. After proposed changes come
into force, the persecution of, for example, religious groups or sexual
minorities would also bring more severe sentences. Currently, racism is rarely
a factor considered by courts when setting sentences. Justice Minister Brax
believes that in future, prosecutors will be tougher on hate crimes.

"Nowadays, the basis for increasing the severity of sentences is open to
interpretation, which in a state ruled by law works often in favour of the
defendant. It will now be clearer what all of these principles are."
Tolerance and Apathy are the last virtues of a dying society
