For those of us CI'ers who don't have a "sword", is it time to sell our garments and buy one"?

It's funny that you mentioned that verse--I just came across it while reading (and listening to) Mark Downey's series, The Future Of Prophecy. His comment is straight to the point:

“...[H]e that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one” Luke 22:36. Do you think the jews know that the spirit of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution is related to Christians defending themselves against antichrists? Lest we be killed in these 'gun free zones'?"

Instead of getting caught up in the last days of this election, I read through Mark's series, and it was very helpful in keeping me focused on what's really important for all of us in CI. I recently got a hard copy of ChristReich, and Mark's series is a great companion and complement to Bill's work, and I can't recommend it more highly to anyone who has yet to read it:

Absolutely.

Id recommend getting a good rifle/pistol combo.

Practice as much as possible.

Longrifle for range, shotgun for home defense, handgun for concealed carry. If you haven't put 500+ rounds through them personally and haven't stripped/cleaned/reassembled them, you need to work on that.

Shotguns will always be the cheapest of the three. You can find a decent one for as low as $350-$400 (Mossberg 500, Remington 870, Escort are a few quality brands). I am not, however, a big fan of shotguns. They're too sloppy and with the cheap, mass-produced way homes are built these days (thin walls, narrow hallways, etc) you run the risk of collateral damage. A well-placed pistol round beats a hasty shotgun spray.

As far as rifles go, your standard M4 carbine/AR platform can run anywhere from $600-$1000s of dollars. But if you buy one piecework and build it yourself it can be as cheap as $380. Palmetto State Armory.com is a good place to start looking.

I would also get one chambered in 556 Nato.

Lastly, for pistol id recommend 9mm. Glock, Heckler & Koch, Beretta, etc are some good makes- expect to pay anywhere between $500-$650 for a good one.

I hear that the Glock 40 packs a little bit more punch than the 9 millimeter and in times of scarcity the rounds are a lot easier to come by. Also I understand that it's able to take another sizes as well. You can also use a conversion kit to use smaller rounds.

The thing with 10mm is that its still a fairly new round, that being said its hard to develop a solid list of pro's & con's...yet. But it definately packs some power and if the G40 can take alternate sizes plus the conversion kit then thats quite impressive.
