I agree ... I have said for a long time that the Reformed Church never quite made it all the way out of Catholicism. I see it in their writings. It is a world away ... but the terminology is there. Many of their definitions are wrong.
I was at a lecture recently that had a Q&A attached to it. The question came up regarding Martin Luther and his writing about the Jews. The answer was very good ... citing the Jewish behavior. I kept wanting the answer to go a little further, but I was surprised it was acknowledged and known about by the person who gave the answer.
My background in brief ... I was "raised" in churches that were more Southern Baptist in theology. Moving to Reformed was a major move ... but what persuaded me was a book by R.C. Sproul, called
Chosen By God. When it came to the discussion in the area of humanism ... I knew I was not one. (I am not sure what I would "see" if I re-read the book now.) However, there were holes in the Reformed doctrine ... more questions that were not answered. There was a point in my life where I stopped reading and listening to all these other voices of "christianity," and sat down and read my Bible and my Bible alone ... for at least a year. I still have questions, but CI had the by far the best answers, and the Bible came alive for me in a way I never expected. I still pray when I read that the Holy Spirit would guide me into all truth. I never expect to know it all, but how grateful I am that Yahweh's book is the living Word!!!
