The Honest Tow-truck Driver

Postby Hunter » Sun Nov 17, 2013 5:42 pm

Last week, the starter went on one of my business vehicles. This happened after I'd finished filling up with fuel at a local gas station at the end of my work day. Of course, it had to start raining at that point just to add to the distress.

Anyhow, I'd called for a tow truck after I figured out it wasn't the battery or the alternator, but that it was likely the starter, and my van was stuck right there where it was - sitting beside the fuel pump island. Help arrived after about a half hour, so in a bit of time my van and I were on their way. It turned out that my mechanic that I always use was working late that evening, so I had the tow-truck driver drop my van off at his garage. Earlier, I had asked the tow-truck driver if he would give me a lift home - which was a couple of miles further - to which he obliged. Upon dropping me off at home, we had some good conversation, and I paid him in cash (three $20-dollar bills and few bucks more).

I then proceeded to get my 2nd van and head back to the mechanic's shop, so I could get some things I needed out of the original van with the broken starter. As I was doing that, I saw the tow-truck driver pulling up beside me. I was a bit puzzled as he got out and headed towards me; I thought what did I do wrong now! As he drew near enough, I noticed he was clasping onto a $20 bill to which he passed to me, while explaining that I'd given him too much money by mistake - two of the new $20-dollar bills (which are now made of plastic, here in Canada) had stuck together. In that moment, I was left a little shocked and in disbelief (and relief).

Full of gratitude, I removed my work glove, shook his hand and asked him what his first name was. I told him that I truly wouldn't forget what he did, and by doing so, he'd restored in me a measure of faith in people, again. Rest assured, Steve looked (and had acted) truly like a white man, himself, and I didn't elaborate any further as to my idea of whom I consider to only be real people in my mind (only my fellow white kindred). To my sad regret, I probably should of said "....a measure of faith in my fellow MAN", in place of people, but I digress.

Steve said to me that "...as a young guy [me] trying to run a business, he couldn't do that [keep the money]". All I can finish saying is ..that my white tow-truck driver demonstrated that the law was written on his heart and he fulfilled the 2nd commandment laid out by Christ. Throughout, he never uttered a word about anything relating to Christianity and quite honestly, this Man looked like he hadn't ever stepped inside a church. His only motivation was simply doing good to his Brother, without even knowing that we literally are of the same family and Spirit of Yahweh God.

PS- According to one of my family members, it turns out he firstly went back to my house to look for me, before he'd ended up having to drive back over to the mechanic's shop, where he finally found me.

Hi Joe, no, I don't operate currently as a tradesman in the type of business that I run. It doesn' t require such. If I had my own way, I'd rather be pretending I was a finishing carpenter in my own shop (as a hobby), but I'd soon be broke.

You know your story reminds me of many whites, they don't realize that they are Christians or that Christianity would appeal to them because of the pharisees.

My family has been carpenters for generations. 4 that I am aware of, including my brother and father, grandfather and great grandfather.
