Just keep it lawful.

Yes, agreed here. Specifically in order to overcome someone who is stronger, BJJ proved itself in the original UFC.

In my opinion stand up technique is very useful in the street situation. A good punch or not becoming flustered by incoming punches can save you from going to the ground. The ground is obviously less desirable in the street. Also just a year of stand up fighting practice already gives you a huge advantage over untrained people.

Of course getting stronger is also very important for martial arts. Might as well just do it!

I think BJJ, Muay Thai, and western boxing are a great combination. Grappling on the concrete is not fun of course, but sometimes there is no choice. I saw an Olympic caliber boxer one night who I thought was going to destroy some guy get clinched and taken down, but then the fight was stopped so I don't know what the final outcome was going to be. I have and I am sure most have seen strikers break hands and legs from striking too hard on the wrong place. Most who follow MMA at all probably saw Silva's leg snap after hitting Weidman when they fought first time.

Speaking of MMA vs boxing, there is talk of Conor McGregor wanting to take on Floyd Mayweather in 2017. Should be interesting.
