When Will Hintz got a call that someone was drowning, he jumped in a boat and sped to the scene.
When he arrived, he found an old friend, Arlington Heights resident Karen Wessel, lifeless in the water after saving a child from drowning on the familiar Wisconsin lake where she spent summers with her family.
“She was a wonderful, wonderful lady,” said Hintz, owner of the Hintz's North Star Lodge, choking back tears as he recalled her upbeat spirit and smile. “I was saving people. I did not know who I was going to save.”
