My father's family were all landsmen/women, but mother's side had strong deep-sea connections.
A song from Canada; the singer died young in a plane crash apparently.

I wish I had a recording of the funniest Sea Shanty I ever heard. I went to the Bottom Line club in NYC to see Fairport Convention. Bassist Dave Pegg [also of Jethro Tull] was piss drunk. The owner of the club, a well known jew scumbag called Allan Pepper had screwed Fairport in some way and Pegg started singing a Sea Shanty about Pepper's mother. The audience was horrified but my friend and I laughed our asses off. If memory serves we even tried buying Pegg more beer but we were declined by the waiter. I can't recall the song specifics but it was hilarious.

That sounds great, Staro; certainly would be one to hear.

Here's a BBC documentary on some aspects/histories of sea-shanties.
