These cams are the Achilles heel of otherwise good quality decks. I really like this deck and will probably have it overhauled now that these new parts make it worth the effort!

I received the second part from Titus1:14 and I am happy to say that the deck is up and running again!

A valuable bit of advice I was given: if you are planning to take something apart it's a good idea to videotape yourself doing it so if you get confused putting it back together you have the tape as a reference. This helped me in this situation.

A machine like this is used to play or record old-fashioned tapes of the sort Swift would have used. Whereas a phonograph/record player must be used to play commercially recorded material, I guess.

An interesting machine none-the-less, I have an interest in machines; how they work and their components. I suppose you use it to convert recording to a more modern format.

The tape on the machine is a commercial tape. The box in the lower right corner is the cover. Albums were released in this format too from the 1960's up until about 1982. Yes, I use this machine mostly to convert tapes to digital formats. Sometimes I listen to commercial music tapes like the one pictured. Yesterday we enjoyed some Classical music on reel to reel after dinner.

I should have realized that was a commercial cover.

Maybe I can update the Swift site soon, and you will let me post these there?
