FACSIMILE EDITION OF CODEX VATICANUS

Postby Michael » Sun Mar 14, 2010 7:31 pm

Hello All,
This is probably a dumb question, however, can anyone advise if the Codex Vaticanus is available in an affordable facsimile edition? From my research an Italian published it around the 1860s, but since then only the new 1999 edition has been published by the State Library of Rome.

As far as the Sinaiticus Codex goes, the new interface web site that was developed by the holders of the textual parts in London, St Petersburg, Germany, and the monastery, allows a view of the original text. However, as far as an in hand facsimile publication of the complete text goes I understand that there is none to date?
Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Matthew 7 16-19 KJV

Bibliorum Sacrorum Graecorum Codex Vaticanus B. (Roma: Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, 1999).

That is the only facsimile I found, probably the same one you mentioned. However, I came across this link concerning the Codex Sinaiticus; http://www.codexsinaiticus.org/ though I'm sure you may have already been there....

Yah Bless,
Matt
For the Word of Yahweh is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb. 4:12

Yes, thanks Matt, that was the new edition of Vaticannus that I was referring to..But unfortunately the price on this edition is very high, as it was designed to be more of an art object, rather than a simple research tool. The price being 5000USD as I understand!

The web site too was what I was meaning re Sinaiticus. It is good, but nothing compares to a book. Maybe this group that organised the site and project will publish in book form in the future, but nothing as yet as I understand. It has been published in part, so I will go with that at this stage I think.

Thanks again,
Michael
