In 2015, there were finally public notices about rabies infecting raccoons in the Hamilton area.
MANY people think racoons are a nuisance, but for an insane reason are STILL protected by the government.
They attack pets, wreck the weekly garbage cans, and CAUSE rabies, but Ontarian's are NOT allowed to fix the problem.
The show "cute" little baby coons on the Weather Channel, just like the "starving babies from Africa" on every other channel, and make it seem, they will not be a threat when they grow older.

I have a bad feeling that rabid , hungry loose dogs,like pitbulls, are in the future.

Rabies were reported in the raccoon populations in West Virginia and Pennsylvania probably 10 years ago. It was only a matter of time before they reach Canada. The best rule right off is probably to stay away from any raccoon seen in the daylight hours, which is sure to have rabies.

I think the raccoons first caught rabies from Mexicans infesting the deep South.

One word of caution concerning rabies--many of us here understand that vaccines are a scam--they are neither safe nor effective. Yet somehow many who know this do not extend that understanding to their pets, magically thinking that vaccines work on animals but don't work on people. This is false. Vaccines cause the same problems in animals that they do in people--debilitating conditions and diseases, such as kidney failure and cancer. Read more about the scam of animal vaccines here:

That said, the supposed transmission of rabies from animals to humans is extremely rare--in 2009 there were only a couple of cases reported. And if you read the medical literature very carefully, you will find that the link between animal bites and human rabies symptoms is still only theoretical.

If rabies were truly a threat to humans, it would be far more common. And with those "confirmed" cases, rarely, if ever, does the CDC offer proof that the rabies virus has been isolated from the person who is allegedly infected--or that there is high enough concentration of the rabies virus to cause the symptoms. They play the same game with measles "outbreaks".

From my perspective, these news stories about the spread of rabies is nothing more than fear porn, a way of getting the public to demand yet another mandatory--and useless--vaccine to protect them from the dreaded threat that shows up in only a couple of people--at most--each year.
